Tomorrow, Thursday 9 June, from 1.30 pm, the online editions of the Grammar of the Catalan Language (IPCC), the Catalan Spelling (OIEC) and the Basic and Useful Grammar of the Catalan Language will be available. (GBU).
These are, in all three cases, normative works prepared by the Philological Section of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans. The searchable edition is accompanied by its own query environment with a built-in search engine and navigation elements that allow you to contextualize the query at all times and scroll through the text.
In addition to serving to make these works available to everyone, these editions are designed so that a simple and at the same time powerful, accurate and reliable consultation can be made, aimed at obtaining the information necessary to resolve, as the case may be. , grammatical or orthographic doubts, or for the study of the language.
On the other hand, the characteristics of these editions will make it possible to keep these works constantly updated, as is already the case with the Diccionari de la llengua catalana (DIEC).
The eminently practical approach of these editions aims to enhance the knowledge and use of the language and to make grammar and spelling familiar to non-specialist users as reference tools to the point that they can be incorporated into the our day to day in the same way that the DIEC has done.
Among the most important novelties shared by the online editions that are now being published, the part dedicated to the consultation of the conjugation of each of the 8,756 verbs that have entry in the DIEC stands out, consisting of a total of 482,785 conjugated forms that include the geographical variants recognized by the regulations.
The new online edition of the IPCC incorporates the innovations introduced in the elaboration of the Essential Grammar of the Catalan Language (GEIEC) and the GBU, and brings together the text published in 2016 and the bibliography published later in 2019.
Among the consultation tools offered by this edition, two special search modalities should be highlighted: the one that allows you to locate only the sections of the work that deal with a certain word or concept or provide relevant information (search by subject) and the which allows you to search for a form with its variants (search with variants).
In the case of the GBU, the online edition integrates in the printed text published in 2019 the sound recordings of the examples, until now searchable thanks to a QR code, and allows the particular consultation of the normative remarks and of use, of which provides an index. It also integrates the consultation of the glossary of grammatical terms, as the GEIEC already did, and at the same time offers an index of terms.
Finally, with regard to the OIEC, this online edition includes and applies all the modifications approved in 2021 and also offers a new plant analytical index, along the same lines as the IPCC, and a bibliographic guide.
In addition, it provides users with specific query tools for the index of examples, which allow them to be filtered typologically according to whether they are words belonging to the common lexicon or whether they are numbers, symbols or abbreviations, and whether they belong to a class of proper nouns or whether they are phrases, phrases, or sentences. These projects have been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the La Caixa Foundation.
