news-24092024-041909

In South Florida, the weather is expected to take a turn for the worse on Wednesday due to a developing tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico. The Tropical Storm Watch issued for the Lower Keys indicates that the storm named “Helene” is likely to grow in size and strength over the next few days, bringing strong winds to the area by Wednesday and Thursday.

The current forecast predicts winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, along with heavy downpours leading to rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches from Marathon to Key West. Additionally, a storm surge of up to two feet is possible based on the storm’s track and trends.

In metro South Florida, similar conditions are expected with passing downpours throughout the week, potentially bringing 2 to 4 inches of rain with locally heavier amounts. While the winds may not be as strong, gusts of up to 45 mph in rain bands cannot be ruled out.

As the wet pattern continues through the week, the weekend is anticipated to show slight improvements in the weather conditions. It’s important for residents in these areas to stay updated on the latest weather alerts and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this developing storm.
