The payroll of contributory pensions once again breaks a new record after increasing in September by 10.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. Specifically, Social Security has allocated €12,051.4 million this month to the payment of this type of benefits. Likewise, the amount of the average pension for new registrations increases.
In the case of those received by new retirees of the system, they amount to 1,439.82 gross euros per month, 1.06% more than a year ago, according to the latest available data – from August – published by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations. An amount that is just over 100 euros higher in the case of retirees from the General Regime, who earn an average of 1,546.88 euros per month, 1.89% more. To these amounts we must add the two extraordinary payments that Social Security pays in June and November.
The system’s average retirement pension stood at 1,376.4 euros in September. While that of the general regime was 1,533.1 euros, amounts that contrast with what retirees from the Self-Employed Regime receive on average, 916.7 euros, and beneficiaries of widow’s pensions, 852.8 euros.
The entry into the system of new retirees with larger benefits on average than the rest of pensioners, having received higher salaries and having higher contributions, contributes to the gradual increase in spending on contributory benefits. However, the factor that has had the most influence has been the revaluation of pensions.
The measure, applied in compliance with the pension reform, has significantly increased spending on this item, which exceeds 12,000 million euros per month – a threshold that was exceeded last July – and thus stands at 11.7%. of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the last 12 months. This percentage is identical to that registered last year, but a few tenths lower than that of 2021 and 2020, two years strongly conditioned by the impact that the pandemic had on public accounts.
Almost three quarters of the ordinary payroll of contributors, 73%, was allocated to the payment of retirement pensions, which totaled 8,793 million euros, 11.7% more than in September of last year. Almost 2,006 million euros were dedicated to widow’s pensions, 9.4% more than a year ago, while 1,057 million euros were dedicated to permanent disability benefits (7.5%).
