Barcelona City Council has not been able to acquire lot 260 of the auction held today by Sotheby’s, consisting of original handwritten musical materials by Freddie Mercury, which included the handwritten lyrics of the song Barcelona.

The lot sought by the Barcelona City Council has been awarded for 57,150 pounds sterling (66,604.66 euros). This figure is well above the maximum that the City Council could pay, which was 30,000 euros, about 26,000 pounds.

This price was set based on public appraisal reports that have determined the value of the auctioned pieces due to their heritage and symbolic relevance.

The Barcelona manuscript will not come to this city, which will have a path dedicated to the Queen singer and the soprano Montserrat Caballé, performers of the famous 1987 song with which the 1992 Olympic Games were promoted, awarded to this city months before. The City Council has announced that this space will be located in the redeveloped Plaza de las Glòries, which is facing the final stretch of its renovation.
