Montserrat has decided to introduce changes in the access to the sanctuary of Santa MarÃa with the aim of improving the visit, preserving the atmosphere of prayer and collaborating in the maintenance of the complex. As of May 3, non-residents in Catalonia or the rest of the State must pay a tourist ticket to access the sanctuary.
As reported by Montserrat, non-residents will be able to purchase different types of tickets: access to the basilica, also adding a visit to the CamarÃn de la Mare de Déu, attendance at the Canto de la Salve or the Virolai or the complete visit, which includes all cases the audio guide.
Capacity control will continue as before, so all residents of Catalonia or the rest of the State must continue to obtain tickets to attend the Cant de la Salve Regina and the Virolai or the convent mass on weekends and holidays , as well as to be able to go to the dressing room.
Attendance at liturgical acts will continue to be freely accessible to residents and to all those staying in Montserrat: monastic hotels, Hotel Abast Cinseros, cel·les Abat Marcet and Abat Oliba or the hostel.
According to sources from the monastery, the funds obtained from the tickets will be used to finance the maintenance of the Montserrat complex and to collaborate in the various works with a social purpose promoted by the monastery.
