The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has just published a notification warning about the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon that has been marketed in several autonomous communities.

The affected product is Smoked Salmon Host C/P-E of the Joalpesca brand with batch number: E675C1528 3, barcode 2249134 011409, expiration date 08/14/2023 and a weight of 1-1.5 kg, which is sells refrigerated

According to the information available, it has been marketed in Madrid, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia and Murcia, but it is not ruled out that there may be redistribution to other autonomous communities.

This information has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI) in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels.

The Aesan recommends that people who have this product at home refrain from eating it. If it has been consumed and symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea or fever appear (compatible with listeriosis), it is advisable to go to a health center.

Listeriosis or listeria is a zoonosis, a very serious food infection that humans can contract by eating products contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes.

The group most sensitive to the infection and its consequences are pregnant women, who can transmit the disease to the fetus during pregnancy or at the time of delivery; immunosuppressed people and those over 65 years of age.
