These weeks spring awakens in the agricultural fields of Lleida, as we can see in this series of photographs in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos.
In Segrià we can find all kinds of pink tones, some lighter and others more violet. They are the peach trees that are in full bloom, leaving the fields of Aitona and its surroundings with these beautiful views.
A few days before, the almond trees began to bloom near these, the enormous plantations of white almond trees on both sides of the road that leads to Sarroca de Lleida are a pleasure to the eye, and if they are near fruit trees with pink flowers, The combination is hypnotic.
In these same fields we find that the fauna has also awakened and we can see, if we are attentive, specimens of the common rabbit on the slopes of the fields. This year there is once again a hunting emergency due to the overpopulation of these rabbits.
Near these rabbits we will also find specimens of one of their predators, the beautiful red kite, a fork-tailed bird of prey, in danger of extinction, according to the National Catalog of Endangered Species.
Kites usually hunt small animals, such as voles and other rodents, but they also have scavenging habits and a certain connection to human presence. These scavenging habits are a serious problem for the conservation of the species, as a consequence of the poisons that can be found in these food sources of organic remains and carrion from human activity, according to the SEO/Birdlife Migra program monograph.
We can even spot what I would say is a long-tailed bishop (due to its long tail, red beak and white stripe) flying among the pink fields.
A passerine bird native to sub-Saharan countries whose food is grain and herbs found in grasslands, according to Animalia.bio and ebird.org.
