The Samur-Civil Protection health workers have treated three people who jumped out of their flats this morning due to a fire in the Madrid district of San Blas-Canillejas and 16 neighbors who were slightly poisoned by smoke, a spokesperson for Emergencies Madrid has informed La Vanguardia.
The fire, whose causes are still unknown, occurred at 7 a.m. this Monday in the bedroom of a home located on the second floor of a five-story building located at 18 Telémaco Street. It has spread throughout the house, breaking on both facades. The fire has only affected this floor, but the smoke has spread to the upper floors.
When the Firefighters arrived, all the neighbors were looking out their windows asking for help, so they were told to stay in their homes for the moment. Then, professionals accompanied them to the exit in a controlled manner, providing them with ventilation equipment.
But given this situation, three neighbors, who were not in the apartment where the fire occurred, jumped from the windows into the street. This is a 60-year-old mother and her 35-year-old daughter from the second, and a 50-year-old woman from the first. The first woman suffered leg trauma and severe abdominal pain, and her daughter suffered lumbar trauma, so they have been taken to the potentially serious hospital. The third suffered from a non-serious ankle injury.
The Samur-Civil Protection health workers have treated them, as well as 16 more neighbors with mild smoke poisoning and some anxiety attacks. They have been given oxygen and have been discharged at the scene.
Municipal Police agents have regulated traffic and have facilitated the work of emergency teams on this very narrow street. At 9 a.m., firefighters continued ventilating the affected homes.
