Fines for electric scooters in l'Hospitalet are reduced

The rate of fines for electric scooter drivers in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat is reduced. According to data published this Thursday by the City Council of the second city of Catalonia, during the year 2023 more than 1,250 sanctions have been filed. In 2022, 1,937 were filed.

Taking into account that 2023 has not yet ended and the pace of monthly fines during this year, except for a sharp increase in recent months, it is expected that the year will end with fewer fines than the previous one.

Municipal sources tell La Vanguardia that they expect to end the year with a level of sanctions “similar to that of 2021.” At that time, 1,505 sanctions were imposed on electric scooter drivers.

During this year, for the first time, seizures of scooters have been carried out in l’Hospitalet. According to these same sources, the reason is that the vehicles “were souped up.”

These scooters are the ones that reach more speed than allowed and, in addition, are more at risk of starting fires. Specifically, around twenty of these personal mobility vehicles ended up being seized.

The City Council itself has recalled through social networks that failure to comply with the rules entails sanctions of between 100 and 1,000 euros.

“The majority of complaints are for riding on the sidewalk, not respecting traffic lights, traveling with two people on the scooter, not respecting traffic signs or driving negligently,” reported the Hospitalet City Council.
