This Saturday, the former president of the Extremadura Regional Government Guillermo Fernández Vara expressed his gratitude and luck for having been part of the history of the PSOE and having been able to fight “for just causes” and to achieve decent living conditions for many people.

Fernández Vara, who after surgery for a stomach tumor reappeared in public this Saturday, inaugurated, with an emotional speech, the XIV Regional Congress of the PSOE that will elect the president of the Badajoz Provincial Council, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, as the new secretary general of the party.

According to what he said, when he thought about the speech he wrote the word “farewell”, which he immediately crossed out because “one does not say goodbye to his loved ones”, but will always be there for whatever is needed and that is why he changed it to “gratitude”. “.

He also recalled that when he was diagnosed with the stomach tumor, someone told him: “What bad luck,” but he asked “how can you talk about bad luck” when you were born in this part of the world and to parents like yours? .

After reminding the general secretaries of the PSOE that throughout his career they have trusted him and thanking him for the policies carried out for the benefit of Extremadura, he told his colleagues that he does not want “medals, squares or streets” because the best medal is knowing that his photo “is in many houses in Extremadura.”
