In La Pobla de Lillet, in Berguedà , we can discover, among other attractions, the Tren del Ciment or the Artigues gardens designed by Antoni GaudÃ.
But, for this photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia I have portrayed the quarry. I was impressed by the smooth and vertical walls from which they took the cement.
The truth is that, around La Pobla de Lillet, we find a good example of the lower Eocene rocks of the Cadà mantle.
The Eocene is an epoch and series of the geological time scale that belongs to the Paleogene period and system; within this, the Eocene follows the Paleocene and precedes the Oligocene. It started about 56 million years ago and ended about 34 million years ago.
On the slopes of the road that goes from Guardiola de Berguedà to the Merolla pass, we can see the outcrop of the rocks of the Campdevà nol formation, made up of a rhythmic alternation of marls and sandstones in centimeter layers, and with some intercalations of conglomerates, according to details the CadÃ-Moixeró Natural Park.
These very characteristic rocks are also called turbidites and are formed by the transport of sediments from the continental shelf on the seabed through turbid currents. They are very common in seabeds that are subjected to seismic movements.
