Anatomy of the Gaze is the exhibition by Argentine artist Patricio Reig that can be seen at the La Mercè Cultural Center in Girona until June 21.
At La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos we have visited the exhibition to see this work that focuses on the look through the eyes of each of the portraits on display.
The technique that helps Reig achieve maximum expressiveness is photography treated in a very free way and exposed as if it were a poem. The eyes of those portrayed challenge the viewer even when they are closed.
Anatomy of the Gaze raises a reflection on the act of looking, an action invariably linked to psychology and (inter)subjectivity, as indicated in the presentation of the exhibition.
It is articulated “as a study of the gaze, as a phenomenological investigation that investigates the dialectic of the gaze, of the intersubjective psychology between who looks and who is looked at, with a whole range of subjects-objects that look and are looked at through of that window that is the eye.”
Patricio Reig (San Juan, Argentina, 1952) is a multifaceted artist with a career somewhere between photography, literature and alchemy. He merges various technical resources.
The exhibition is curated by Natàlia Chocarro and is the result of the collaboration between the La Mercè Cultural Center and the Vila Casas Foundation.
