Unrest in the leadership of Junts per Catalunya and in the post-convergent parliamentary group with Aurora Madaula, vice president of the party and second secretary of the Parliament Board. The leader, close to Laura Borràs, on Friday of last week, during the celebration of the Parlament de les Dones, which took place in the chamber of the Catalan Chamber, accused some “comrades” of the party, without mentioning any of them. specifically, of “silent violence.”

“Sexist violence is wearing the lilac ribbon, demonstrating, while at the same moment you impose machismo in your organizations, institutions, work or family environments,” said the deputy from the lectern. “Sexist violence is that they belittle your work, that they do not listen to you or that they modify your proposal without your opinion,” she noted in another later moment, visibly moved, in which she spoke of “parliamentary and media harassment.”

Sources consulted indicate that the JxCat leader negotiated a parliamentary resolution on the right to abortion in Andorra last week, behind her back to the party, which was later rejected by the post-convergent group. The sources consulted point out that her speech occurred as a reaction to the disapproval that she suffered from the management, which is not the first. The leadership of the party already made amends to the leader in April due to Borràs’ situation, when she requested her reinstatement as president of the Chamber in a press conference with the deputy and lawyer Jaume Alonso Cuevillas.

In the party chats since Friday there has been a lot of noise about this issue, according to sources consulted, and some national advisors of the party are considering the possibility of requesting that her deputy’s record be claimed at the next meeting of that body and that it come out of the party leadership. However, the minutes are personal and non-transferable and only a voluntary resignation could have that effect. “It is the eternal fight to throw her out,” summarizes a member of the national council. “There is a lot of unrest but there is still nothing organized,” says another.

In any case, the party leadership has decided to postpone the meeting of the highest leadership body between congresses scheduled for December 2 to January 13. The reason is that it coincides with the December long weekend.

From the party leadership, although several leaders privately express their discomfort, no comment has been issued on the matter at the moment. This Tuesday, as usual, there will be a meeting of the JxCat parliamentary group in the Parliament, in which the matter may be addressed.

Madaula was elected vice president of Junts by a very narrow margin and was close to being left out in the Argelers congress voting in June 2022. In fact, she was the one who received the fewest votes in that ballot box. She then attributed the low support received, below 50%, to the fact that she continued defending independence and added that this bothers her. Furthermore, at that time, Madaula also shared criticism of certain sectors of the party, such as some who said that the party was a “denrow of convergent autonomists who adapt to continue living off the trough.” She arrived at the Parliament Table after Cuevillas’ doubts about disobedience in April 2021.
