Spain will participate in the launch of food from planes so that the Gazans can receive them as a result of the blockade that Israel maintains so that aid can arrive by land. After some shipments from Jordan, three US Army C-130 cargo planes dropped aid from the sky on Saturday: 66 packages with 38,000 food rations inside.
In response to the call made by King Abdullah of Jordan, one of the promoters of the initiative, the Ministry of Defense has detailed the delivery to the Hashemite kingdom of 110 cargo parachutes to deliver humanitarian aid packages to alleviate the famine situation it is suffering. a good part of the population of this Palestinian territory displaced by Israel’s military operation.
The sending of these parachutes responds to “Spain’s commitment to the civilian population, which suffers the consequences of the war between Israel and Gaza.” The Government has also reiterated the need to establish an “immediate” ceasefire in the war offensive unleashed after the Hamas attacks in Israeli territory and which has so far cost the lives of more than 30,000 people.
Jordan has established contacts with various NGOs deployed in the Gaza Strip to coordinate the receipt and distribution of aid. And the shipments will be added to those made in recent days from planes from the United States, France, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
Land shipments, subject to the green light from Israel, which has imposed a blockade on Gaza since 2007, arrive only in very limited quantities, mainly through Rafah, from Egypt.
Furthermore, its transportation, especially in the north of the territory, is dangerous due to fighting, Israeli bombing, debris blocking roads and, sometimes, looting.
