The Department of Culture does not intend to catalog the Casa Vallmanya de Alcarràs where the president of the Generalitat spent seasons in the second Republic, Francesc Macià, as a Cultural Property of National Interest.
The Government has denied the petition that the popular initiative Salvem Cal Macià-Casa Vallmanya registered at the end of May 2022 to protect and preserve the property that is “in an extreme situation”.
The technicians of the department consider that the historical and architectural values ??of the property “are not enough” to grant the building recognition and that the protection as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest is already adequate.
For its part, the popular initiative Salvem Cal Macià-Casa Vallmanya regrets the decision and accuses the department “of having lost its way”.
Salvem Cal Macià-Casa Vallmanya regrets on his Twitter account that the technicians from the Department of Culture base their opinion “exclusively” on the report cataloging the property as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest for the year 2008 “as if it had not rained since then nor a blanket of scientific articles with discoveries about the house and family history would have been published”.
In the same thread, they assure that there is no other building with the same architectural characteristics in the Segrià region, nor with the same social and political attributes in all of Catalonia.
Likewise, from the popular initiative they consider that the technicians of the department have not consulted the historical press that confirms that Macià made stays in the property within the official agenda as president of the Generalitat.
In addition, the platform regrets that the Institut d’Estudis Catalans considers it unnecessary to increase the protection of Casa Vallmanya as there is an interpretation center about Francesc Macià in the Comarca de les Garrigues.
