Consum has increased the workforce in Catalonia by 18% in the last five years and currently has a workforce of 4,077 people. The Valencian cooperative has hired 737 more people since 2018, when it had 3,340 workers. In the last financial year, 276 people have joined the workforce.

Consum workers in Catalonia represent 21% of the Cooperative’s total workforce. The supermarket chain has a total of 240 establishments in the territory, 112 own stores and 128 Charter franchises, in addition to the Free Zone Logistics Platform, which opened in 2014.

Consum has closed the 2022 financial year with a total workforce of 19,337 people, almost twice as many workers as a decade ago. In January 2013, a total of 10,433 people worked in the cooperative and, therefore, the creation of clean employment in these 10 years stands at 8,894 contracts. In the last year, the record of 1,000 new jobs has been broken and 1,127 have been created.

The figure, which anticipates that the cooperative will overcome the barrier of 20,000 workers this year, is due to a sustained growth over time of between 500 and 1,000 new contracts in the year and for the company this demonstrates “Consumer’s commitment to the creation of stable and quality occupation”. This growth coincides with obtaining the tenth consecutive Top Employers certificate, which distinguishes the cooperative as one of the best companies to work for. In addition, it is the only distribution company with the Family Responsible Company certificate, with the qualification of Excellence.

During the two reinforcement campaigns last year, Easter and Summer, a total of 2,778 people were hired, both coinciding with periods of increased workload. Of the total contracts signed during these two stages, a total of 835 were part-time and 1,463 were full-time.

Of the total workforce, 72% are women (14,005), while 28% are men, specifically, 5,332. By communities, the workforce is distributed as follows: in the Valencian Community, 64.7% of the workforce, with 12,518 people; in Catalonia, 21% of the total number of workers, specifically 4,077 jobs; in Murcia, 1,457 people hired, representing 7.5%; in Castilla-La Mancha, 3.5% of the total occupancy and a total of 690 contracts, and Andalusia, 3% of the total workforce with 595 people hired.
