The Mossos d’Esquadra have confirmed that the crime of Laila, 37, this Thursday in Olot (Girona) is a case of sexist violence and that it was her partner, 56, who ended her life. The investigation handled this as the main hypothesis of the crime and this Friday confirmed that it was indeed a sexist murder and that the perpetrator committed suicide after committing it, dying shortly after at the Regional Hospital of La Garrotxa, where he was transferred in serious condition.
The Department of Equality and Feminisms of the Generalitat has condemned the feminicide and has expressed its support for the victim’s entourage, as has the Olot City Council, which has decreed three days of mourning and has called a rally this Friday at 6:00 p.m.
The first of these institutions remembers that three women have died as a result of sexist crimes in Catalonia this year, to which is added the two minors who died in Barcelona in a case of vicarious violence.
The number of women murdered in Spain, since records began in 2003, would amount to 1,245. Five of the crimes of sexist violence have occurred this year. In the last few hours, the murder of a woman at the hands of her husband in Aldea del Rey (Ciudad Real) has also become known.
