With only an hour left until the start of the investiture plenum, a radical twist in the script: the socialist Jaume Collboni is shaping up to be the future mayor of Barcelona. BComú, the formation led by mayor Ada Colau, has just announced that it will vote in favor of the PSC’s candidate for mayor of Barcelona and that it will go to the opposition. This is the condition that the PP had set to support Collboni’s investiture. Now all that is needed is for the PP to confirm its decision to vote for the socialist mayor

The commons affirm in a statement that “after much debate” they have decided to vote for Collboni’s investiture “in coherence with the need to avoid a Junts government that rolls out red carpets to lobbies and sectors favorable to right-wing policies” .

BComú wants to make it clear that this decision has been made without any prior agreement with the psc and in no case with the PP. Colau’s party has announced that he will not enter the minority government of the PSC and that his clear option is “to make clear and unambiguous opposition.”

The commoners regret that the PSC “has not made any move to reach an agreement between the leftist forces and is preparing to have the mayoralty with a precarious minority of only 10 councillors.” “Despite this, BComú hopes that this exercise of generosity and responsibility with a mostly progressive city will serve in the future to reach an agreement between BComú, PSC and ERC, the only guarantee of a strong government that will carry out the public policies that Barcelona needs”.

BComú warns that it will only form part of a government in the city of Barcelona if it can join the other two progressive forces and from the opposition it will do whatever it takes to achieve it.
