Faithful to the campaign script until the last minute, the Ciudadanos candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Carlos Carrizosa, has put the finishing touch on the last day of his electoral tour at the door of the Lledoners prison, where the most of the independence leaders condemned by the Supreme Court until they were pardoned.

Carrizosa has gone there to remind Carles Puigdemont, the Junts candidate, where he should be, in his opinion, “purging the crimes committed.” His campaign slogan these days has been “Stop them” and Puigdemont and Pedro Sánchez appeared on the poster. A strong bet.

Later, in the evening, the party organized a party at a terrace bar with good reviews on Google for a hotel on Princesa Street in Barcelona.

All very modest, living up to the expectations of the surveys published in these weeks that attribute zero deputies to the formation that only two elections ago, in 2017, won with 25% of the votes. The decline, which will probably be certified by the polls tomorrow, is dizzying and a bad omen for training ahead of the European elections to be held four weeks from now.

The poll by the Center d’Estudis d’Opinió of the Generalitat, published in the first week of the campaign, specified that the little that remained to be distributed from this flow of votes will be taken this Sunday by the PP, abstention and the PSC, for this order.

Carrizosa has focused his entire campaign on the identity level: the unmitigated condemnation of the process and its authors, the defense of the Spanish language in education in Catalan schools, the criticism of “the confiscatory voracity” of the independence administration and the “ shameful amnesty” by Pedro Sánchez, leaving aside that other side of Ciudadanos – longed for by many of its founders – linked to a liberal vision of society and the economy. A different perspective that has not even appeared these days.

The most relevant event of the campaign took place last Saturday, also on a terrace, facing the sea, in Barcelona. Together with Carlos Carrizosa, Jordi Cañas, Javier Nart and Arcadi Espada. The last three participated in the founding of the party 18 years ago. Cañas will head the European Parliament list.
