If Christian was fifteen days ahead of Princess Leonor when he came of age, the Danish prince has today followed in the Princess’s footsteps in his particular oath of the Danish Constitution. The grandson of Margaret II of Denmark participated this Tuesday in a meeting of the Council of State in which he made a solemn declaration that he wants to comply with and enforce the Constitution of his country. According to local media, it was this gesture that allowed him to be installed as head of state or to exercise the regency in case neither his grandmother nor Prince Frederick, his father, could.
It is probably the first time in the history of the Danish Constitution that three generations of the line of succession are present in a Council of State at the same time, as stated by the Kongehuset (Danish royal house). We have not yet seen the prince in many official events, for the moment he is the heir’s heir, and, as the royal house announced in July, the prince will continue to focus on his studies for the moment.
This Tuesday’s event concludes the celebrations of Prince Christian’s 18th birthday, which began on October 15 when he was honored at a gala dinner at Christiansborg Castle attended by the Danish royal family, members of the houses Nordic royals and Danish young people representing all the municipalities of the country.
Prince Christian of Denmark will not receive the financial allowance planned for when he turns 18, the Danish royal house announced last July. Unlike his grandmother and his father, he will not receive public income until he is 21: “Prince Christian’s main priority in the next year will be to complete his secondary education. […] support will be sought in the Danish parliament for a law on annuity when the prince turns 21 or in a possible succession to the throne, if that happens sooner,” Kongehuset announced. After these years, Christian is expected to dedicate more time to official events, but until then the prince will participate in them on a limited basis.
Chrisitan was the first member of the Danish royal family to study primary school at a public school. He later attended secondary school at the elitist private boarding school Herlufsholm Skole, a center that he left after allegations of sexual harassment and abuse were uncovered in a documentary on Danish public television, and moved to the Ordrup Gymnasium center in Gentofte. With military training still pending, he has many steps left to work full-time as a prince.
This Tuesday’s ceremony happens a week after it was published that the heir to the Danish throne, Chrisitan’s father, had spent the night with Genoveva Casanova during a recent private trip to Madrid, something that continues to generate interest in the Danish press about Cayetano’s ex-wife.
