The socialist candidate for the presidency of Navarra, María Chivite, was sworn in this Tuesday on the second day of the plenary session held in Parliament, receiving the support of the PSN, Geroa Bai, Contigo Navarra and the abstention of EH Bildu, which has given the simple majority necessary in the second ballot for his investiture.

The vote took place at 5:20 p.m. on this holiday Tuesday in the plenary hall of the Navarre legislature and it has been secret again. As reported by Europa Press, each of the representatives of the Chamber has deposited their vote, after being called in alphabetical order, with a ‘yes/bai’, ‘no/ez’ or ‘abstention/abstentzioa’ in a ballot box.

After Chivite did not reach an absolute majority in the first vote on Monday, after 24 hours the parliamentarians of EH Bildu have abstained, as planned, to enable the investiture of María Chivite. UPN, PPN and Vox have maintained their vote against the socialist candidate. In this way, Chivite has added 21 supports, has received 20 votes against and has had 9 abstentions.

The PSN leader thus renews another four years in the presidency of Navarra after having agreed on a legislature program with Geroa Bai and Contigo Navarra, a negotiation that lasted until August 7 after the differences between Geroa Bai and PSN.

Chivite will preside over a coalition government that will be made up of 13 departments, eight for the PSN, four for Geroa Bai and one for Contigo. The Government will not have a majority in the Parliament of Navarra, as in the last legislature, since it has 21 of the 50 seats.

At the end of the vote, María Chivite embraced the spokesperson for the socialist group, Ramón Alzórriz, and the spokespersons for her government partners, Uxue Barkos (Geroa Bai) and Begoña Alfaro (Contigo-Zurekin).
