The conflict between Eurovision and Chanel is a thing of the past. The Song Festival has decided that this year, unlike what happened in the last edition, it will have the presence of the Catalan artist.
In this way, the 2022 Spanish representative will perform in the first Eurovision semi-final, which will be held on May 7 and can be followed on La2 from 9:00 p.m. The Catalan will not be alone. As Eurovision has confirmed, two other Eurovision stars will also perform: Eleni Foureira and Eric Saade.
This news has been very well received by Eurovision fans on social networks. In fact, fans of the festival have already asked RTVE to make a change to its schedule and broadcast the first semi-final on La1 so that Chanel’s performance does not remain in the background.
The decision to reinstate Chanel in Eurovision comes after a series of speculations and misunderstandings surrounding her absence from last year’s edition. The controversy of the last edition focused on the exclusion of Chanel, being the only artist in the top 4 of 2022 who did not participate in the festival.
This generated a lot of debate and rumors, especially after the singer expressed her willingness to participate on TikTok: “If it were up to me, I would be handing out mango juice.” However, Nius revealed that Chanel was never officially invited to the semifinals or the final.
According to internal BBC sources, Chanel’s absence from the previous edition was due to creative reasons, specifically because “it did not fit with the show they had planned for the festival.” Although they assured that “it is nothing personal,” the explanation did not avoid criticism of the decision, which many considered not very transparent.
