Chandigarh Voters: Setting the Standard for Democratic Participation
Chandigarh, June 2, 2024: The recently held elections in Chandigarh witnessed an impressive voter turnout, with 67.90% of eligible voters casting their ballots. Vinay Partap Singh, the District Election Officer-cum-Returning Officer, announced that out of 659,805 eligible voters, a total of 448,007 individuals exercised their democratic right.
The polling process in Chandigarh began promptly at 7:00 AM, with a mock poll conducted beforehand to ensure a smooth voting experience. Throughout the day, there was a steady flow of voters at the polling booths, with peak hours seeing a surge in voter turnout. The overall distribution of voter turnout throughout the day was as follows: 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM – 11.64%, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM – 25%, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM – 40.14%, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM – 52%, and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM – 62.80%.
One of the key factors contributing to the successful voter turnout was the efficient use of the CVA app by the citizens of Chandigarh. This app provided real-time updates on queue lengths, polling booth locations, and important notifications, making the voting process more convenient and streamlined.
Additionally, the presence of NSS volunteers played a crucial role in facilitating the voting process for senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWD). These volunteers not only assisted individuals at the polling booths but also engaged in door-to-door campaigns to encourage voter participation.
Overall, the polling process in Chandigarh was conducted peacefully and without any disruptions. The high voter turnout reflects the commitment of the citizens towards actively participating in the democratic process and shaping the future of their constituency.
