The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, announced yesterday at the Cercle meeting a project for a chip factory in Catalonia that would involve an investment of 350 million euros and could generate some 200 jobs, according to the sources consulted. The facility, which would actually be an advanced microchip design center, would be located in Cerdanyola next to the Alba Synchrotron.

The project is now in the hands of the central government, which has to authorize a portion of the Next Generation funds for it to go ahead, as the president explained in the conference he gave at the Cercle.
