The former president of the PP Pablo Casado has admitted this Monday before the judge that he did not contrast the statements he made in December 2021 about Catalan in schools because they appeared in the media, although he has assured that “he would do it again”.

Sources present in the Chamber have explained to the media that Casado has testified before the judge of the examining court 29 of Barcelona, ??who has cited him as being investigated for alleged insults by saying that in Catalonia teachers have instructions not to let children go to the bathroom. children who speak Spanish.

Likewise, the same sources have explained that the former president of the PP has testified by videoconference and has only responded to the questions of the judge and his lawyer.

During his statement, Casado explained that the information about Catalan at school “was taken from the media and, since the Generalitat had not filed a complaint against them, he took it for granted.”

Casado made these statements at an act of the PP in Galicia, and said: “Can it be tolerated that there are teachers with instructions not to let children go to the bathroom because they speak Spanish? Can it be tolerated that there are children who, because they speak Spanish at recess, they put stones in their backpacks?”

The former popular leader has assured that with these statements, his intention was to “denounce ERC and Junts slogans”, according to the same sources, and defend the family of Canet de Mar (Barcelona) who, according to what he has said, was the victim of crimes of hate for legally demanding that his son receive at least 25% of classes in Spanish.

“He has acknowledged that he said these words protected by parliamentary inviolability as a deputy, although the judge denied it and, when asked if he had received different treatment for these statements, he said yes, because many Catalan parliamentarians have said many things within Parliament and they have not been persecuted”, they added.

The judge admitted for processing the complaint that the Generalitat filed against the former leader of the PP after the Supreme Court (TS) closed the investigation it had on the same case because Casado was no longer registered when he left his seat in Congress.

Upon receiving this new complaint from the Generalitat, the courts of Barcelona proposed to send the case to the courts of La Coruña, where Casado made these statements, but the Catalan administration appealed it and finally it is investigated in Barcelona. Likewise, during his statement, he has detailed that he filed an appeal for reform that the judge did not admit, and that he will file an appeal.
