The acting First Vice President of the Government, Nadia Calviño, confirmed this Sunday that the STC group has not yet contacted the Spanish Government to request its entry into Telefónica. At the same time, she maintained that she did not contact the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed bin Salmán, during the G20 summit in New Delhi after the entry of the STC group from his country into the shareholding of Telefónica.

Calviño, at the final press conference of the summit, in which the president, Pedro Sánchez, led the Spanish delegation after testing positive for covid, insisted that this decision is a business operation that must be approached by rigorously applying all mechanisms. available from the Spanish legal system.

He added that there is still no official notification to the Ministry of Defense and Commerce, which is the step that would launch the evaluation process by the Government.

For this reason, he stressed that there is nothing new and that the Government will act as it has done since Pedro Sánchez arrived at Moncloa and reinforced the mechanisms to protect the strategic interests of Spain while promoting foreign investment.

“We will rigorously analyze this and other operations that take place and, of course, we will apply all available instruments to defend the general interest, the strategic interest of our country, as we have been doing since day one,” he insisted.
