TikTok encourages its users to log on and read using a BookTok partnership between Barnes and Noble.

The TikTok community, BookTok, has grown tremendously over the past two-years. It allows creators to post book reviews, recommendations and discussions. Popular videos sparked a new interest in literature. Retailers like Barnes and Noble created special displays to highlight the most popular books.

TikTok has announced that it will be partnering with Barnes and Noble to bring new books to the #BookTok community. Customers can scan a QR code at Barnes and Noble to take them to a dedicated hub that hosts videos by popular BookTok creators. Collaboration with Barnes and Noble includes aymansbooks and bookpapi, kevintnorman and maistorybook, as well as kevintnorman and thebooksiveloved.

Michele Laikowski, Barnes and Nobles’ head of social media, stated that BookTok has been a powerful medium for discovering paperbacks and bringing back worthy titles to customers’ minds.

TikTok encourages users to read new books, particularly for teenagers, and allows them to share their thoughts with the #BookTokChallenge hashtag. The collaboration featured a selection of summer reading recommendations by the creators, including “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and “When Women Were Dragons”, by Kelly Barnhill. They also encouraged their followers to share their suggestions.
