The Spanish women’s soccer team, brand new world champions, is one of the nominees for team of the year at the Laureus awards, as announced this Monday at the Real Casa de Correos in Madrid. Spain competes with the European Ryder Cup team, the German men’s basketball team, Manchester City, the Red Bull Formula 1 team and rugby ‘The Springboks’.

Among the members of the national team, Aitana Bonmatí and Salma Paralluelo, also winners of the Champions League and the League with Barça, are among those chosen to win best athlete and revelation of the year, respectively.

The one from Vilanova i la Geltrú has already been awarded this year with the Ballon d’Or and The Best award thanks to her great performance with the Barcelona team and with Spain. Bonmatí will fight for the statuette with Shericka Jackson, Faith Kipyegon, Sha’Carri Richardson, Mikaela Shiffrin and Iga ?wi?tek.

For his part, Paralluelo competes alongside Jude Bellingham, nominated especially for his emergence at Real Madrid, where he already has 20 goals and 8 assists. The category is completed by Linda Caicedo, Coco Gauff, Qin Haiyang and Josh Kerr.

In the male athletes of the year section, Novak Djokovic, Mondo Duplantis, Erling Haaland, Noah Lyles, Lionel Messi and Max Verstappen are nominated. The other categories are return of the year, action athlete, para-athlete of the year and sport for good, dedicated above all to the social work of different organizations, an award for which the Rafa Nadal Foundation is opting.

On April 22, the champions of each category will be announced at a gala that will take place in Madrid, and which will be the twenty-fifth edition of the awards.
