This Thursday the administrative act of signing the contract for the construction of the new railway viaduct of the Gorg canal in Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) was carried out, which will have a length of 180 meters and a structure of 5 openings with a separation between 30 and 42 meters. The construction of this railway bridge between the streets of Ponent and Tortosa will allow the train to pass over the new Gorg canal, a 32-meter-wide sheet of navigable water that, from the Port, extends 325 meters into the city. The canal will have the capacity to accommodate 200 new moorings for boats up to 15 meters in length.
The works on this new infrastructure will begin next April. In a first phase, which is expected to be completed next November, the prior diversion of rail traffic from the coast line will be carried out, an essential step so as not to interrupt the train service on the Barcelona-Mataró-Maçanet line. -Massanes while the viaduct is being built. Once this variant is built, the construction of the viaduct will be carried out, which may be in service with the definitive railway lines at the end of 2025.
The whole of this work will mean a very important improvement in the connection of the northern neighborhoods of Badalona with the maritime façade, through the Rambla del Gorg and the urbanization around the canal. At the same time, it also involves improving the connection of the port, the coast and the neighborhoods of La Mora and Gorg with the rest of the city; the construction of a new communication roundabout that will join the streets of Ponent and Eduard Maristany and an eight-meter-wide underpass for pedestrians and emergency vehicles and services on Tortosa street.
The administrative act of signing the contract was attended by the mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, the manager of Marina Badalona, ??Imanol Sanz, and the representatives of the Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) Comsa-Dragados, winners of the works. . The contract is the result of the previous agreement signed between ADIF, the Badalona City Council and Marina Badalona. The works have a budget of 15.4 million euros, of which Marina Badalona contributes 10.5 million and Badalona City Council 4.9 million. This agreement also incorporates the investment by ADIF of 3.3 million in improvements to the railway infrastructure between Sant Adrià del Besòs and Badalona.
The mayor of Badalona has highlighted the relevance of signing the contract because it allows the most important civil work that has been carried out in the last twenty years in Badalona to be launched. He also highlighted the uniqueness of the project and what it will mean for the structure of the city. “The Gorg canal will become a unique space without parallel in our environment, it will allow the entire city to be transformed, create a new urban centrality and directly connect the neighborhoods closest to the mountain with the port and the seafront,” said Garcia. Albiol, who has been very satisfied because the construction of the canal “represents a qualitative leap for Badalona and all its neighbors.”
