The mayor of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord), Xavier Garcia Albiol, met today with those responsible in Catalonia for the company Fomento, the street cleaning service concessionaire, to convey to them “the restlessness and concern about the situation of accumulation of rubbish that it occurs in many parts of the city” and to work on proposals for immediate improvements. The third deputy mayor and councilor for the Area of ??Territory and Sustainability, Daniel Gracia, and the councilor for the Public Mobility Area, David Mejía, also participated in the meeting, which took place in the El Viver municipal building.
The mayor, who described the meeting as very positive and useful, remarked that one of the most urgent concerns that has been addressed is the accumulation of garbage, the lack of containers and, especially, the garbage and dirt that accumulates around the containers.
In this sense, two improvement proposals have been advanced, during the next 15 days between 80 and 90 new containers will be placed in the parts of the city that need it most and those that have broken down will be replaced. And in the coming weeks, when the company has carried out the corresponding study, more containers will be installed in those areas where there has been an increase in population or commercial activity in recent years.
In addition, Xavier Garcia Albiol, has shown his surprise at the reduction in recent months of the nine cleaning services for the spaces around the containers (six during the day and three at night) going to only 3 at present, with a reduction of 66%. “Someone will have to explain why the order was given to the company to reduce this service,” concluded the mayor, who has assured that he will reverse this situation.
For his part, the mayor has announced that for the next Plenary Session of the City Council, the Area of ??Public Roads and Mobility will present a proposal for the purchase of up to 600 new containers.
Currently, the Badalona City Council is awaiting the drafting of the technical specifications for the call for the new competition for the street cleaning service, currently under extension.
