Officials said Friday that one child’s body was found in a Minnesota lake. They continued to search for their mother and two other children.
Maplewood police stated that the rescue and recovery operations continued well into the night at a lake near Minneapolis-St. Paul, where several agencies were still searching for the victim of suicide call earlier in the day.
Maplewood police and fire responded to a suicide report at 10:30 am. It was believed that the man who was the father of the children was found dead at the home.
Steiner stated that the police were able to use information from relatives to lead them to Vadnais Lake at 4 p.m. in an investigation into the man’s murder.
Authorities discovered a vehicle and other belongings that belonged to the family at the lake. This led authorities to believe that they may still be in the area, he stated.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher stated that they were treating the case at Lake Michigan as a potential triple-homicide. It was a tragedy and a tragedy, he said.
Fletcher stated to reporters that “a terrible set of facts seems to be emerging” on Friday night.
He said that the three children were all under 5 years old and that it is unknown where their mother lives.
To assist in the search, divers, fire and emergency services, cadaver dogs, as well as other resources, were available on-scene.
Vadnais Lake can be found in Vadnais Heights. It is approximately 7 miles north from St. Paul and 9 mi northwest of Maplewood.
