I took these photographs for La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos with a mobile phone in the town of Sant Celoni, in the Vallès Oriental region.

Autumn can seem like a cold and dreary weather season because the trees lose their leaves. However, being able to see the different shades of brown, yellow, green, ochre… is a real pleasure and a relative surprise.

The truth is that it is a joy and pleasure to see the different colors and shapes, because no leaf is the same as another. Also, I really like taking photographs and videos, if leaves fall, it is a very relaxing feeling.

Observe how they descend from the trees in such a light, soft way and be able to record or portray it. Surely, autumn is not my favorite season of the year, but seeing the leaves with so many colors and that they change shade every day is a great pleasure that must be valued.

Leaf fall in the autumn months varies depending on the genus and species. There are trees that tend to drop their leaves early, while others, such as willows, wait until mid-November.

Leaf drop involves complex physiological signals and changes. When autumn arrives and the days are shorter, deciduous trees decrease the production of chlorophyll pigment, allowing other more ocher and brown colors.

The brightest leaf colors (yellows, browns, and oranges) occur when the days become shorter and the nights are cool, but remain above freezing.

Anthocyanin pigments produce red and purple colors, although they are not always present in the leaves.
