The President of the Government, Pere Aragonès, and the leader of the commons in the Parliament, Jéssica Albiach, met this Friday at the Palace of the Generalitat to discuss the new budgets of the Generalitat and the future of the ERC’s solo Government.

Sources from both parties confirm the meeting earlier this afternoon, reported by El Periódico, which is part of a round of contacts that the president has made with different parliamentary groups. Thus, Aragonès has held telephone conversations to date with the leaders of Junts, the CUP and the PSC, although he has summoned them to hold meetings “in the coming days”. With the leader of the opposition, Salvador Illa, the president plans to meet at the end of the week, although a date has not yet been set.

The meeting represents a deference from Aragonès to the commons, who have been the most stable partner that the Government has had to date, after the approval of this year’s budgets. In fact, Albiach’s men were once again destined to be the partner with which to approve the new accounts, but the departure of Junts from the Government and its refusal, for now, to support them, has reduced their protagonism in favor of the PSC.

Albiach, who maintains a good personal relationship with Aragonès, has recently been very critical of the ERC’s stubbornness in maintaining the veto on a budget agreement with the PSC. The commons reject a budget extension and reproach Aragonès for contemplating that scenario.
