The plenary session of Altafulla has initially approved the process to determine the alteration of the municipal area with respect to Tarragona, with which the municipality could gain 70 hectares. In the extraordinary session this Thursday, the proposal has only received the support of the government team, while the PSC and Alternativa Altafulla have abstained.
The opposition agreed in criticizing the mayor, Jordi Molinera, for the ways in which the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, had handled the issue, but they also criticized him for “lack of transparency.”
For his part, Molinera has insisted that a participatory process will be opened to both citizens and administrations and that it will be the Generalitat who ends up determining the final delimitation of the municipal area.
The proposal to alter the municipal boundary between Altafulla and Tarragona has focused the beginning of the extraordinary plenary session this Thursday at noon, in which the government team has presented to the rest of the municipal groups the reasons why they defend the change of the territorial limit.
Mayor Jordi Molinera has insisted on the services that the municipality offers to the Plana del Vinyet sector in terms of security or garbage collection. Likewise, he has stressed that this is not a “romantic” issue but rather a “practical” one to regularize the situation in this area. In this sense, Molinera has stressed that the territories “are dynamic.”
The desire to request the change of territorial limit was announced at the beginning of February, within the framework of a lunch with the press. In this context, the mayor explained his desire to propose that the new limit be marked by the Gaià River, which would allow the municipality to gain 70 hectares that are currently part of the city of Tarragona. The Generalitat will have the last word.
Sources from the Altafulla City Council have stressed that in no case will they consider stopping the services offered in the area.
