Alfonso Luciano Fernández Puente has been selected as the best seller of the ONCE of the year 2022 in La Rioja. An award with which the Organization annually recognizes the effort of the workers dedicated to the sale of its different responsible lottery products, as well as the attitude in their workplace, the involvement with customers or the commitment to social work. of the ONCE.
Alfonso, 62 years old and with a disability, along with the other 21 vendors selected from all over Spain, received his award during a gala dinner held on June 9 at the ILUNION Pío XII Hotel in Madrid, where all were accompanied by the heads of the Organization.
The seller, who is a fan of Mecano’s songs, has always known how to face adversity and states that one of the keys to his success is that he has never felt inferior, either due to his disability or other circumstances.
In the beginning, he traveled daily from Logroño, where he lived, to Arnedo, where he has always sold. Until he decided to rent a house in this town.
He remembers that he was able to buy his first new car thanks to the 2.5 million of the old pesetas that he got on a coupon. Alfonso has also distributed many prizes, like the first that he remembers, of 250 million pesetas. Four years ago he sold a “Mega Millionaire” scratch card awarded with one million euros and also a “Sueldazo” de Fin de Semana awarded with 100,000 euros. As is tradition, the motto chosen for the gala of the ONCE Best Sellers of the year 2022 was ‘Good People ONCE’, and it took place under the values ??of Talent, Perseverance, Solidarity, Illusion, Respect, Equals, Union, Closeness , Sympathy, Wit and Commitment.
These are, precisely, some of the values ??that ONCE takes into account when selecting those salesmen and women who have stood out throughout the year, in addition to their own performance of their work, their attitude in the position, their grade involvement in the institutional life of the Organization and its commitment to social work.
With these premises, the great award-winning recognition gala wanted to pay homage to the place where every day, hot or cold, sunny or rainy, the ONCE vendors distribute the illusion in exchange for the solidarity of the citizens : the streets of towns and cities throughout the geography.
For this reason, the scenery and structure of the act were customized simulating an outdoor street environment, in this case a square. With the particularity, in addition, of being a square under construction, symbolizing the purpose that is at the origin and in all the work of the ONCE Social Group: its social work.
The general director of ONCE, Ángel Sánchez, addressed all the vendors of the Organization, represented in the 22 winners, to thank them for “your dedication and dedication and for representing the best values ??that guide the work of the ONCE for almost 85 years”. The event, with very emotional moments, was hosted by the actor and presenter Luis Larrodera and included performances by actors from the Yllana company.
In addition to the gala, the winners were able to enjoy a whole weekend of coexistence and camaraderie in the capital, in which there was time for a guided tour of the city of Madrid ‘From the Architectural Vanguard of the XXI Century to the Historic Center of the City ‘; attendance at a cultural show; social lunches and dinners and free time for your own enjoyment. With this annual ceremony, ONCE gives special recognition to these 22 workers who have demonstrated their effort throughout the year and, by extension, to the more than 19,000 salespeople of the Organization who currently make up the main sales channel for its products.
The spirit of this recognition of their work was summed up by Miguel Carballeda, president of the ONCE Social Group, in a single sentence at the end of the gala, when he told them: “Continue being good people ONCE, good people, because ONCE needs you”.
