The generation companions of Carlos Alcaraz (20) are beginning to despair, the talent that does not let them breathe. They begin to get desperate because they can’t find a way to sink their teeth into it.
Casper Ruud despairs.
The Norwegian is 24 years old, has ten ATP titles and three Grand Slam finals, two at Roland Garros and a third at the US Open, but he cannot find a way to dismast Alcaraz, the puppy who today, in the quarterfinals of the Beijing ATP, has defeated him again (6-4 and 6-2).
And so they go: four matches and four victories for the Murcian (including the final of the US Open last year).
Ruud, essentially an earthling, starts off well. He sustains Alcaraz’s pressure in his first game of service: he saves five break points and ends up winning and, in a row, scores the next two: he goes 0-3 up, but that’s where it all ends.
Alcaraz reacts, opens the thunder box, mounts his tennis shoes and takes flight. He wins six of the next seven games and takes the first set, and does not let go of his grip later, in the second set: he breaks Ruud’s serve in the third game, Castilla is wide.
On the same side of the draw, Jannik Sinner defeated Grigor Dimitrov (6-4, 3-6 and 6-2) and will now face Alcaraz, the second racket in the world whose attack on the lead will not be possible these days: Djokovic leads him by more than 3,000 points.
At the other end of the table, Daniil Medvedev and Sasha Zverev will fight for the other place in the final.
