The National Police have arrested a young man, 24 years old, for pushing his girlfriend from the Flores-Rita Barberá bridge in Valencia and then alleging to the agents that the victim had actually accidentally fallen with his electric scooter.

The events occurred around six in the morning on New Year’s Day, as reported by Las Provincias, on the central Las Flores Bridge, where several patrols of the National Police and the Local Police came to urgently help the young woman. The agents rescued the victim, 25 years old, and later asked both her and her partner what happened.

At first, the alleged aggressor’s version was corroborated by the young woman. However, the agents detected certain nuances when reporting the fall, which did not seem credible. First, they indicated that he had hit a bollard, located on the bike lane, and that the young man had helped him get up until they both accidentally fell. Then, they detailed that they had drunk alcohol and that first she rushed in and then her partner jumped in to help her.

After this statement taking, the young woman was transferred to La Fe hospital while her partner went home with the two electric scooters, although the agents asked her to be reachable at all times. Once at the health center, the young woman ended up confessing to a SAMU doctor that her partner had thrown her from the bridge. “She threw me off the bridge, it wasn’t an accident,” said the victim, as reported by the Valencian newspaper.

The Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) gave part of the young woman’s testimony to the National Police, who proceeded to arrest the aggressor in the same hospital when he went to visit his girlfriend. The arrested person was brought to justice for a crime of gender violence.
