A 59-year-old worker died this Wednesday in Sierra Nevada (Granada) after suffering a fall from a height, apparently while cleaning in a gondola, according to sources from the 112 Andalusia Emergency Coordination Center and Cetursa, the public company that manage this mountain space.

The work accident occurred around 1:45 p.m., when several witnesses reported to 112 that a worker had fallen from a height when he was in the Borreguiles cable car, located in the municipality of Monachil (Granada).

The accident occurred on the fifth level of the lower station of said cable car, specified 112, which has notified the health services, Civil Guard, Local Police and Cetursa.

Once at the scene, the toilets have only been able to certify the death of the operator, who apparently suffered a severe blow to the head.

The deceased, with two children and who had more than twenty years of experience at Cetursa Sierra Nevada, was cleaning the machinery in the lower station (boarding area) of the Borreguiles cable car, located about four meters above the ground.

As a result of this death, the corresponding judicial protocol has been activated and 112 has also notified the Labor Inspectorate and the Occupational Risk Prevention Center.

In statements to EFE, the president of the Cetursa-Remontes works council, Miguel Ángel Vargas (CCOO), has referred to the opening of an investigation to clarify the circumstances of this work accident with a “fatal outcome”.

The union spokesman has sent his condolences to the family of the deceased and has indicated that the union will purify responsibilities, if the existence of some type of negligence is confirmed.
