A 27-year-old national police officer in training at the Usera-Villaverde Police Station died this Saturday morning in Madrid when his motorcycle crashed into a Samur-Civil Protection ambulance at the intersection of Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona with Cafeto street, in the Retiro district.

As reported by Madrid Emergencies, the incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. and the victim lost his life on the spot. The police union Spanish Police Confederation (CEP) has published on its Twitter profile that the deceased, assigned to the Operational Response Group (GOR) of the aforementioned police station, has collided with an ambulance “that was circulating in the opposite direction” and that “He did not go to any emergency service.”

For this reason, the statement continues, the driver of the mobile UVI of Samur-Civil Protection “has been arrested by the Municipal Police of Madrid”, although the Judicial Traffic Police of the local body continues to investigate the causes of the accident, as reported a police spokesman told EFE.

The CEP has also indicated that the deceased has suffered an “accident in itinere”, that is, that he was going to join or was returning from his job when the accident occurred.

The new Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, has offered his condolences to the victim’s relatives through his social networks: “All my love to the family and friends of Jordi Duart Olmos, agent of the National Police. Our sincere gratitude for their dedication and sacrifice at the service of the citizenry”.
