A third of Badalona attends the lighting of the "tallest in Spain" Christmas tree

The residents of Badalona have come en masse to witness the lighting of the Christmas tree, this Saturday afternoon. The mayor of the city, Xavier García Albiol (PP), has announced the start of the Christmas Illusion for Christmas campaign and has defended that the tree-shaped structure “is the tallest in the country” during the inauguration ceremony.

In his speech, Albiol announced that more than 50,000 people, a third of the population – 223,506 registered in 2022, according to the Institute of Statistics of Catalonia – have attended the Plaza Josep Tarradellas in Badalona to see the lighting and observe that the city ??”has the best tree in Catalonia, Spain, Europe and the world.” This structure measures 40 meters, 15 meters in diameter and with 82,000 LED light points, while, according to him, the tree in Vigo (Pontevedra) measures 37 meters. Although his mayor has assured that he will reach 44.

Precisely, the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, has sent a video to congratulate the residents of Badalona on Christmas and invite them to Vigo, and added that he does not want to “have comparisons.”

In the face of so much expectation and with a touch of euphoria, Albiol wanted to send a message to its citizens. “The residents of Badalona deserve to have the best Christmas in the entire country, and today we are proving it,” she said. She assures that “there is no city capable of bringing together so many neighbors.” From the opposition, they consider it “an act of the Popular Party” and they have not attended.

The lighting of the tree was accompanied by a light and sound show. An activity that will be repeated every day until the Christmas holidays are over.
