The Sampedros de Burgos festivities have had a rocky start this year due to a rocket. The announcing bomb that kicks off the festivities in the city’s Plaza Mayor has been diverted and has ended up hitting the platform set up among the public for the press.

The incident occurred this Saturday morning and it was precisely the mayoress of Burgos, Cristina Ayala, who was in charge of launching the projectile.

The impact caused a small explosion on the press platform, causing minor injuries to two of the cameramen who were at the scene.

Despite the fact that the event has been a scare, a Red Cross device has come to the platform to care for the injured and check that other attendees had not suffered damage.

“The rocket has bounced off several people who were on the platform, it has fallen to the ground and it has given us time to move away before it exploded, thank goodness,” one of the journalists who were on the platform in the moment of impact.

The same journalist has warned that the accident could “have been much worse” and that luckily everything has been a scare: “Imagine that it explodes on top of one of us, we are not counting it”, he has warned.
