The Minister of Health of the Generalitat, Manel Balcells, has inaugurated the Radiation Oncology Center in Granollers (Barcelona), which will provide radiation oncology care to patients from the centers of the C17, that is, the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic, the Hospital Asil de Granollers Private Foundation, the Mollet Health Foundation and the Sant Celoni Hospital (Barcelona).

It is a satellite building of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona that has an area of ??1,500 square meters and “state-of-the-art technology” to treat 1,000 patients each year, the department reported in a statement this Wednesday.

“This is necessary equipment to improve oncological care for patients throughout the area, with cutting-edge technologies, proximity and quality,” Balcells claimed during the center’s opening ceremony.

With the new satellite center of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona they want to “reinforce the quality, equity and experience in radiotherapy treatments”, as well as bring radiotherapy treatment closer to patients in the area and avoid more than 16,000 annual trips.

The facility has two high-energy linear accelerators, a CT for the preparation and planning of treatments, which incorporates a 4D system for the acquisition of respiratory movement, and outpatient clinics to visit patients.
