The National Police have arrested the person responsible for a marijuana plantation in an industrial warehouse in Riudarenes (Selva). The man, who was in an irregular situation in Spain, was part of a criminal group.

Citizen collaboration was vital to uncover this plantation that occupied a warehouse of about 900 square meters in a residential area of ??Riudarenes. The neighbors began to detect a “constant movement” of people and vehicles and began to suffer overload problems in the power lines.

The criminal group modified the structure of the ship in order to optimize cultivation. They used low-consumption light bulbs, carbon filters and extractors in order to not be detected by security forces.

They also used fertilizer material to accelerate growth and increase the percentage of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the most important active ingredient in cannabis. Plus they had the light on. The National Police estimates that the amount defrauded from the electricity company amounts to more than 117,000 euros.

Due to the large dimensions of the warehouse, the Barcelona Police Intervention Unit (UIP) subgroup was activated, which was in charge of accessing the premises. There they found the person responsible for the plantation, who was arrested.

This is a man who was in an irregular situation in Spain and who, after being brought to justice, the judge ordered his entry into prison without bail.

The 1,315 marijuana plants seized by the agents had a total weight of approximately 200 kilos. The police managed to restore the electricity supply and thus solve the constant power outages suffered by the residents of the area.

Members of the Riudarenes municipal guard also collaborated in the police action, providing support and security throughout the operation.
