The prestigious travel portal Lonely Planet has published this month Best Beaches: 100 of the World’s Most Incredible Beaches, a guide that includes the best beaches to visit around the planet. Classified by continents, the book recommends paradisiacal and interesting beaches from more than 50 different countries such as the Fiji islands, Thailand or Madagascar, among others. And among this selection is Cala Estreta on the Catalan Costa Brava.

Undoubtedly, this corner is one of the greatest exponents of the rich geography of Catalonia. It is a place that many consider idyllic, an exquisite combination of rocks, sand and blue water worthy of the most exotic places. With the appearance of the cove in the prestigious guide, this small place located in the municipality of Palamós gains great notoriety at an international level.

To enjoy this cove it will be necessary to walk from Es Castell beach, approximately 20 or 30 minutes, following the well-known Camí de Ronda. It is an important walk, but it is common that on the Costa Brava the most beautiful coves are hidden and not easily accessible. In this sense, Cala Estreta is no exception, although the route is quite flat and does not pass through any rock walls.

La Cala Estreta is located in an absolutely virgin environment. There is not a single hint of human presence. For its part, the cove is indeed narrow, just over 100 meters long and 5 meters wide. It is divided in two by a quite spectacular rock outcrop called La Roja.

Other places in Spain have also entered the selection of beaches: Torimbia beach in Llanes (Asturias), Illetes beach in Formentera (Balearic Islands), Famara beach in Lanzarote (Canary Islands) and Punta Paloma beach in Tarifa (Cádiz).

The Lonely Planet book edition features stunning photographs that capture the extreme beauty and landscape of each location, as well as expert knowledge, experiences, and tips so you can make the most of your adventure.
