A 76-year-old woman of Spanish nationality has died after falling from the Santa Bárbara Castle in Alicante, as sources familiar with the case confirmed to EFE this Thursday.
The event occurred yesterday, Wednesday afternoon, around 5 p.m., when the woman was visiting the fortress with family and, apparently, she looked over a battlement or sentry box where she lost her balance and fell into the void, these sources have indicated.
For their part, sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (Cicu) have indicated that the notice of the accident came at 5:20 p.m. and that a Samu unit was mobilized, which could only confirm the death of the woman.
The Castle of Santa Bárbara is located at the top of Mount Benacantil and offers 360º views of the city of Alicante. It was conceived as one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain, as stated on its information website, and since 1961 it has been considered an Asset of Cultural Interest.
