A 51-year-old driver died early this morning as a result of a head-on collision between his vehicle and another in the Lleida municipality of Pinós (Lleida), as reported by the Catalan Traffic Service. The fatal victim is J.M.M.R., a 51-year-old man from Berga (Barcelona).
The accident, whose causes are still being investigated, took place around five in the morning at kilometer 55.30 of the C-55 highway. As a result of the impact, the driver of one of the two cars died, while the driver of the other vehicle was transferred in a less serious condition to the Sant Joan de Déu de Manresa hospital (Bages).
As a result of the accident, traffic has been cut off until eight in the morning on the C-55 highway, at which time an alternative passage has been enabled until the road has been fully reopened shortly before nine o’clock.
Various Mossos patrols, three units of the Generalitat Fire Brigade – who have worked to release the injured – and three ambulances from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) have participated in the operation for this accident.
