A 42-year-old man has died in Malaga after choking on a piece of meat at a barbecue in the Peñón del Cuervo recreational area.

The accident took place on September 23, Diario del Sur reports, when emergency services went to the scene because the man showed symptoms of choking. After several rehabilitation maneuvers, they managed to recover the patient and get his pulse back, so he was transferred in critical condition to the intensive care unit. Later, he died in the hospital due to lack of oxygen due to drowning.

On September 20, a 78-year-old man died in similar circumstances in the Madrid municipality of Villanueva del Pardillo in a restaurant.

Death due to choking was the first cause of death in 2022 for reasons other than an illness, according to INE data.
