London’s MG Advanced Design Studio has collaborated with British artist Jonny Ambrose to design an art sculpture called Spirit Reborn, which not only marks the fourth anniversary of this advanced design studio, but also celebrates six decades of the legendary MGB.

Ambrose enjoys a strong reputation in the British creative industry, and is renowned for his works combining digital technology with the use of unique and striking modern aesthetic concepts to express different styles of sculpture. The work focuses on new elements and abstract forms, while preserving the essence of the original model.

Spirit Reborn is made up of two design aspects that represent both MG’s past and future, and is designed to mimic the transformation and transition of the 1960s to the digital age of the 21st century. With this sculpture, the artist wanted to reflect the interpretation of the brand when it comes to “inheriting classic values and looking towards the future”. fFounded in 1924 in Oxford (United Kingdom), MG has maintained the sporting spirit to this day; Today it belongs to the Chinese giant SAIC Motor.

On its Spirit side, the volumes of the classic MGB of the sixties are reproduced in full, maintaining its proportions but accentuating key design elements such as the round headlights and bodywork. The Reborn side, meanwhile, employs a more abstract fluid shape and uses the same expressions from the frame area to give it a moody look and offer a futuristic feel.

The body lines on this side of the piece are drawn from the MG Cyberster electric concept coupe, which debuted at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. In this case, neon-colored translucent acrylic panels extend to the rear, creating an attractive sensation of speed.

Structurally, the work is made up of strips of carbon fiber and oak containing Richlite, an innovative and environmentally friendly composition made of compressed paper and resin, which can be cut and processed in different ways. This recyclable material is part of MG’s sustainable vision.
