The roster of residences showcases Bungalow, Mediterranean and Spanish Revival styles, some built more than 100 years ago, some modernized for today’s lifestyles.
"The homeowners are all excited to share the colorful history of the neighborhood," said home tour chairwoman Kate McGrath, who has lived in the area since 2009.
The tour is a fundraiser for ongoing beautification projects and improvements in the historic district.
Tanya and Rich Thomas will point out the brick front steps that were uncovered during renovation of their 1923-Mediterranean/Spanish-style home, as well as several original doors, windows and an interior archway.
The couple can share advice on installing a new kitchen, renovating the guest house and updating the swimming pool and landscaping. Also, since they purchased the house in 2000, the fireplace got a chimney — there never was one — and a porte-cochere was built adjacent to the kitchen. Stucco was replaced exactly as the original exterior.
The family recently added a second floor containing two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a TV room, den and rear porch. The original second story burned in a fire in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The house sat empty and roofless for a few years, eventually turned into four apartments. It was returned to a single-family home by the owner just before the Thomases.
Complimentary snacks and beverages will be offered at each home. Tickets are $25 in advance online at historichydeparktampa.com, at Salt Pines, 1503 W Swann and Deakin Property Services, 2909 W Bay to Bay Blvd. The price rises to $30 on the day of the tour.
