The Sau reservoir stands as a striking visual witness of the drought that is plaguing the internal basins of Catalonia. In the center of this reservoir, which has reached historic levels of water scarcity, lies the church of Sant Romà de Sau, whose remains are revealed every time the rains are scarce, becoming a photogenic symbol in the middle of a desolate panorama.

The Sau dam, an imposing structure of 335,000 cubic meters of concrete that blocks the Ter River, unfolds like an inverted pyramid for 260 meters. Despite its magnitude, signs of the drought emerge in the desert environment surrounding Sant Romà and in the exposed walls of the dam.

The following selection of images shows the current emergency situation that Sau faces, considered the worst drought in its history.
